Red Sangria with Orange, Persimmon, and Pomegranate

Red Sangria with Orange, Persimmon, and Pomegranate is easy, classic red sangria with pinot noir wine, brandy and pomegranate juice!
I’ve been waiting weeks to share this red sangria with you! I could barely contain myself. I gave this Red Sangria with Orange, Persimmon, and Pomegranate recipe a trial run on Thanksgiving, thinking it would be the perfect elegant, refreshing cocktail.
It most certainly was, and it really added some sparkle to my holiday.
On most occasions, I drink Pinot Noir or other red wines, but I also love a good red sangria. I love how festive and refreshing sangria is, but what I don’t love is ordering one out and it’s far too sweet.
I like my sangria to be just sweet enough, so that the flavors of the wine, fruit, and other ingredients shine through.
I was given the opportunity to work with Gloria Ferrer, and I knew instantly I wanted to make a holiday-worthy sangria.
I knew it wouldn’t be a problem making a cocktail that would shine with Gloria Ferrer wines as I’ve visited the winery and tasted the wines and sparkling champagnes.
I’m lucky enough to live near Sonoma, and take advantage of visiting as often as possible.
Gloria Ferrer Caves & Vineyards is Carneros’ original sparkling wine house, owned and founded by the Ferrer family of Spain. The winery was opened in in 1986 in southernmost Sonoma County, and was the fulfillment of a longtime family dream to make world-class sparkling wines in an exceptional New World terroir.
These wines are exuberant and fruit-forward, making them a perfect match with today’s diverse and flavorful cuisines.
They say they are the bottled expressions of the vines, hillsides, fog, wind, and sky of Carneros, which is something really special.
Gloria Ferrer wines have earned over 400 gold medals and 50 90+ scores in the past 5 years! Can you see why I was excited about this cocktail? 🙂
Since I wanted to create a red sangria recipe, I decided to use the Estate Pinot Noir, which is earthy, with the flavors of black cherry, cedar, and spice.
I knew some of my favorite fall/winter fruits — orange, persimmon, and pomegranate — would be perfect with this wine.
And naturally, it was. 🙂
I kept this sangria classic by adding brandy to the mix, as well as sweetened pomegranate juice for my fruit juice. If you use an unsweetened pomegranate juice, you’ll need to use more sugar, because it can be really tart.
Normally I would’ve considered making a simple syrup for this cocktail instead of using straight up granulated sugar, but it was Thanksgiving, and I had way too many other things to tend to.
The granulated sugar worked out perfectly, and you know how long this took me to put together? About 10 minutes — and that’s being generous. I chilled it in the fridge the entire day while I worked on my Thanksgiving dinner, and it was wonderful to sip a glassful as I nibbled on appetizers before dinner.
This Red Sangria with Orange, Persimmon, and Pomegranate will definitely be making an appearance at Christmas and then some. It’s elegant, impressive, and the perfect cocktail to add sparkle to your holidays!

This drink is absolutely gorgeous, Marcie! I kinda wish I had one for breakfast, because it’s 5:00 somewhere, right? 🙂 I don’t have sangrias too often, but I would gladly drink this with all of the wonderful flavors. I’m sure everyone loved this on your Thanksgiving test run! And Gloria Ferrer wine is so perfect for this festive drink!
There’s enough fruit in here to make this acceptable for breakfast, I think? 🙂 It was a hit with us sangria drinkers on Thanksgiving…it was a really nice change from drinking Pinot Noir. I can’t wait to try the Blanc De Noirs for the holidays as well! Thanks, Gayle, and hope you’re having a nice week!
Marcie, Pinot Noir is one of my favorite wines! I LOVE this sangria!!!! beautiful and LOVE the flavors here!!!!
Pinot Noir is definitely my top pick, and it was delicious with all of this winter fruit! Thanks, Alice!
Gloria Ferrer is one of my favorites to order when we go out to dinner, but I keep some at home too for when I just need a GOOD glass of wine. LOVING this sangria, Marcie!! Pinot Noir with Brandy, orange, persimmon and pomegranate = YUMM! So glad you kept going and didn’t second guess this, because not only is it gorgeous, I bet it tastes even better! As soon as I get back into town I am making the Hubs and I a pitcher of this sangria! Cheers, my dear! <3
I definitely consider Gloria Ferrer to be good wine, and it’s nice to have a special bottle around for emergencies. 🙂 I’m glad I didn’t second guess myself either — this wine was perfect with all of this delicious winter fruit! Thanks so much, Cheyanne!
That looks amazing. I made a similar one last week, but with white wine instead of red and loved it. But definitely a little nervous pouring an entire bottle of wine into a pitcher with juice and fruit – what if it wasn’t good?! You’re right though, no way that can’t be good! 🙂 Love your photos!
I always think white sangrias are so pretty, but since I prefer red wine, I rarely try the white varieties. I’m so happy that this came out great and that there really was no reason to be nervous. haha Thanks, Stacey! 🙂
