Blackberry Moscow Mule
Blackberry Moscow Mule is everything you love about mule cocktails with a blackberry twist! It’s crisp, refreshing and perfect for any occasion!
I’m a self-professed boring cocktail drinker most of the time. Red wine is my thing (pinot noir, malbec, and zins are my absolute faves), and I’ll have a nice cold beer on occasion.
Typically I steer clear of cocktails when I’m out because I’m afraid that I’ll pay a hefty price for a watered down drink or just plain won’t like it.
I’m picky about cocktails the way I’m picky about my coffee drinks, and I figure if I’m paying so much for them, why shouldn’t I be?
If you want something done right, sometimes you have to do it yourself, and that’s how this Blackberry Moscow Mule came to be.
Vodka cocktails are definitely something I’ve stayed away from due to a bad experience that I won’t bore you with. I’ve had in my head for years that it doesn’t agree with me, and I was fine with that until I was intrigued by the Moscow Mules everybody was drinking around me. And why the funky little copper mugs?
I read about the history of how the mule came to be in a bar called the Cock ‘N’ Bull in Hollywood in 1941, and it was pretty interesting stuff. If you’re wondering why the copper mugs too, read all about it here.
My sister-in-law kept telling me how good mules were, and then I went to a gathering where a friend was making them and I had a sip of hers. It was amazing. Then she went and bought me a couple of copper mugs that she’d found, and of course I had to start making them at home.
I started with a nice, classic recipe, and I knew that ginger beer and lime would be perfect with the blackberries I’ve been buying at the farmer’s market sooooo…I made this Blackberry Moscow Mule.
The blackberries right now are so perfect for this drink. They’re plump, juicy, and so super sweet! I used some gigantic ones for this recipe, muddled them with a small sprig of mint from my garden, and added the ginger beer, vodka, and generous squeeze of fresh lime juice.
These blackberry mules work best when the mugs are icy cold, so placing it in the freezer is definitely a good idea. Fill the mug with ice (or one large slow melting ice cube), and strain the drink through a strainer. Garnish with more blackberries, mint, and lime, and it’s cocktail time!
I know cocktails are personal things…remember, I said I was picky and you probably are too. This Blackberry Moscow Mule recipe is very customizable to your personal taste in that you can as much or little alcohol as you like, and the same goes for the ginger beer and blackberries.
I just really hope you give this cocktail a try — it truly is one of the most refreshing drinks I’ve had, and you gotta love that blackberry-ginger-lime combination. This is so perfect for summer sipping. 🙂

Blackberry Moscow Mule
- 4 very large blackberries or 8 smaller ones plus more for garnish
- 1 sprig mint plus more for garnish
- 6 ounces ginger beer
- 2 ounces vodka
- 1 – 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh squeezed lime juice
- Lime for garnish
- Place a copper mug or glass in the freezer until frosty.
- In another glass, muddle the blackberries with a small sprig of mint. Add the ginger beer, vodka, and lime juice.
- Fill your frosty mug or glass with ice or one large slow melting ice cube, and strain the liquid into the mug. Garish with more blackberries, mint, and lime, and enjoy!
- This cocktail is best when it’s icy cold!
- You can customize this cocktail to your liking by adding more or less alcohol, or more or ginger beer and blackberries!
- I love the pronounced lime flavor, so I used 1 1/2 tablespoons in my cocktail.
