Turkey Meatloaf with Homemade Barbecue Sauce isn't your run of the mill meatloaf! It's moist, comforting, and flavorful, with a tangy, homemade barbecue sauce. Time to re-visit an old fashioned favorite.
Serves: 4-6 servings
For the meatloaf:
  • 1 lb. lean ground turkey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup old fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
For the barbecue sauce:
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon liquid smoke
  • ¼ teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • salt, to taste
Prepare the meatloaf:
  1. Place the ground turkey, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, milk, oats, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Using your hands, gently mix the ingredients together just until incorporated. Cover with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for at least 30-45 minutes until the oats soften.*
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a meatloaf pan with cooking spray, or line a large rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place the meat mixture into the meatloaf pan, or form it into the size of a standard size loaf pan on the baking sheet. Place on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
Prepare the sauce:
  1. Place all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and whisk together. When the meatloaf has baked 20 minutes, spread the sauce over the top and bake 20 minutes more, or until a meat thermometer registers 165-180 degrees. Place on a serving platter, slice, and enjoy!
If you're pressed for time, use your favorite bottled barbecue sauce.
