Top 15 Dishes of 2013

top 15 dishes of 2013 collage

Another year bites the dust.  Really — 2013 has flown by.  So much food, so many photos, and a whirlwind of adventure for me the past few months in cooking school.  Where did it all go?  Right. out. the. window. 😉   Nonetheless, I feel fortunate to have “met” so many wonderful bloggers out there that I receive so much support from, as well as inspiration, and I appreciate every reader that gives my recipes the time out of their busy day.  Maintaining a blog is a lot of work, but this is a passion of mine, and of course, your comments and likes really make my day. 🙂  Thank you for supporting FTM!

So, now that I’ve finished being sentimental (for now), I suppose you’re on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what the top recipes are?  I thought so! 😉  It’s always fun for me to see which recipes people like the most, and frankly, sometimes I’m very surprised how something simple takes off.  You know what they say — the simple things are often the best — and the readers here have chosen many simple, uncomplicated recipes.

15.  Key Lime Bars.  If you’ve followed my blog for a while, t’s no surprise that I’m a key lime fanatic.  These bars have a buttery, flakey crust and loads of citrus flavor. Don’t you just want to take a big bite?

14.)  Oatmeal Zucchini Snack Bars.  Oats + grated zucchini + chocolate chips = one delicious snack bar!  These bars are so addicting, and they’re great as snacks, breakfast, or dessert.  These bars are 3 for 3!

13.)  Who can resist a bowl of classic French Onion Soup that’s topped with golden, crusty bread and melted cheese?  Listen…I think it’s calling your name.

spicy lime grilled shrimp

12.)  Spicy Lime Grilled Shrimp is spicy and flavorful with a pop of lime freshness.  Delicious and easy, and it pleases everyone. 🙂

lemon burst cookies

11.)  Lemon Burst Cookies are just that — bursting with lemon flavor.  They’re thick and chewy, and I know that you can’t eat just one…because I couldn’t. 😉

healthier hummingbird muffins

10.)  Healthier Hummingbird Muffins start off the top 10, and I have to tell you, these were my favorite muffins EVER.  Bananas, coconut, crushed pineapple, pecans, and Greek yogurt.  They’re healthy, and you wouldn’t know it if I didn’t tell you.

9.) Roasted Butternut Squash and Pear Soup is my favorite butternut squash soup — and I’ve made a lot.  The squash and pears are roasted in cinnamon and maple syrup, so it’s packed with flavor. 🙂

black bottom cupcakes

8.)  Black Bottom Cupcakes {All Dressed Up} are one my favorite cupcakes…black bottom cupcakes…frosted and dressed up for a party.  The cupcake is moist and chocolatey with a cream cheese-chocolate chip filling.  They’re topped with cream cheese frosting, and they’re nothing short of heavenly.

7.)  Crispy Baked Zucchini Chips with Greek Yogurt Ranch are crispy, slightly spicy baked zucchini chips with a simple Greek yogurt Ranch.  This is an appetizer that’s a huge crowd pleaser!

snickerdoodle bars

6.) Snickerdoodle Bars are even better than the cookie version.  They’re thicker, chewier, slightly gooey, and packed with cinnamon, which gives you so much more snickerdoodle bang for your buck. 😉

cilantro lime rice

5.)  Cilantro Lime Rice is one lively side dish.  Lots of lime and fresh cilantro flavor just wakes up your plate, and is great served with just about anything. 🙂

healthier strawberry banana muffins

4.) Healthier Strawberry Banana Muffins are the first muffins I ever made using Greek yogurt, and I was instantly hooked.  They’re so moist from the the Greek yogurt, banana, and fresh strawberries, and since they’re healthier, there’s no guilt involved.  You need these for breakfast!

red velvet cream cheese brownies

3.)  Red Velvet Cream Cheese Brownies are the. best. brownies. ever.   They’re moist and fudgy with a luscious cream cheese swirl and chocolate chips.  This is the quintessential red velvet dessert here, and I would choose these over cupcakes any day of the week. 🙂

mexican sweet corn cake

2.) Mexican Sweet Corn Cake is sweet, moist corn cake reminiscent of the days when I used to go to Chevy’s Fresh Mex and order a side of this with my meal.  One scoop was never enough for me, and I don’t think it will be enough for you, either. 😉

no bake nutella oatmeal cookies

1.) No-Bake Nutella Oatmeal Cookies are so easy and delicious.  Was I surprised these were the most popular recipe of the year?  Yes!  No because they weren’t irresistible, but because they were so simple.  I’ll never underestimate the power of Nutella or a no-bake cookie again. 🙂

I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year filled with family, fun, and great food!  I can’t wait to see what 2014 will bring. 🙂
