6cupsCold filtered wateruse 8 cups water for light, 5-6 cups for moderate, or 4 cups for strong)
Materials:
French press OR
2 large pitcherspreferably with a spout
Fine mesh sieve
Fine cheesecloth
Instructions
French press method
Place the coffee grounds in the bottom of the french press. Add water and stir well. For this recipe, I used 5 cups of water.
Place the lid over the top but do not press! Steep at room temperature for 12 hours.
After 12 hours, press the coffee. Serve over ice or chill!
Pitcher - cheesecloth method
Place the coffee in one of the large pitchers and add the desired amount of water. Stir until thoroughly combined and cover with plastic wrap. Steep at room temperature for 12 hours.
When the coffee has steeped, place the sieve over the second large bowls. Fold the cheesecloth 2-3 times and place in the sieve, making sure it covers the opening of the sieve completely. Pour the coffee-water mixture through the sieve. Remove the grounds and use discard the grounds or compost. If there are coffee grounds or the cold brew seems murky, strain once more using a new piece of cheesecloth.
Place the cold brew in an air tight container and chill in the refrigerator. Enjoy with your favorite milk, creamer, or sweetener!
Notes
Enjoy your cold brew coffee over ice with your favorite creamer or non dairy milk. I love mine with coconut or almond milk!
For stronger cold brew, use 4 cups of water. For weaker cold brew, use 6 cups of water.
I used an 8 cup french press for this recipe, which fit 1 cup of coffee and 5 cups of water perfectly.
Save your coffee grounds for composting. They're great in the garden!
