I don’t have to stand over a hot cook top and deal with a piping hot skillet, and there are no messy spatters to clean up!
I love that all I have to do is season the chicken and vegetables, pop everything into the air fryer basket, and my chicken fajitas are done in about 15 minutes or less.
It’s the more hands-off way to cook them. Simply toss the mixture every 4 minutes or so for even cooking and the air fryer does the rest.

Recipe ingredients
This air fryer fajita recipe includes all of the classic ingredients. I use my homemade taco seasoning because I always have it in the pantry, but fajita seasoning works as well!
- Chicken. Boneless skinless chicken breast or chicken thighs may be used in this recipe. Be sure to cut the chicken into uniform 1/2″ thick slices to ensure even cooking.
- Bell peppers. Any color of bell peppers work perfectly here. Sliced poblano peppers would be a great addition as well. If your bell peppers are large, you’ll only need 2. If they’re smaller, use about 3.
- Red onion. Halve the red onion and don’t trim off the entire root. This way, when you cut the onion lengthwise into 1/2″ thick strips, they won’t fall apart.
- Seasoning. My homemade taco seasoning recipe is perfect for this dish, but you can also use your favorite store bought seasoning. Since my homemade version includes a lot less sodium than store bought brands, you may need to add up to 1/2 teaspoon additional salt to suit your tastes.
- Oil. Two tablespoons of oil helps the seasoning adhere to the chicken and vegetables, and also promotes browning.

Yes! The recipe is both low carb, Whole30 and high protein as written. Serve them in lettuce wraps or in bowls over my cilantro lime cauliflower rice with your favorite toppings. If using store bought seasoning, I recommend using Siete fajita seasoning as it is full of clean ingredients.
This is a great meal prep recipe! You can prepare the seasoning and slice the chicken and vegetables in advance and store them in separate containers to help save time.
The entire meal can also be cooked and stored in containers for up to 3 days and reheated when you’re ready to eat.
Be sure to cut the chicken into uniform 1/2″ slices so that they cook evenly. From there, cook at a higher heat such as 390 or 400 degrees for about 12-15 minutes. Check the chicken for doneness after about 10 minutes to ensure that it doesn’t over cook.
Serving suggestions
