Burgers are always in the dinner rotation here. I like to change things up with different types of ground meat, but nothing beats a classic all-American hamburger.

My grilled burgers have been a family favorite for years, but when it’s too hot to fire up the grill, the air fryer is the perfect solution. It cooks burgers quickly and evenly, creating a lightly crisp exterior while keeping the inside tender and juicy.

The first time I tried making these Air Fryer Hamburgers, I wasn’t sure they’d turn out as juicy with that crisp exterior I love — but they exceeded my expectations.

Just like my other air fryer recipes, they come out perfectly every time: flavorful, juicy, and incredibly easy with minimal cleanup.

  • Juicy inside, lightly crisp outside thanks to air circulation.
  • No grill needed, you can make burgers year-round.
  • There’s no preheating and clean-up is a breeze.
  • Consistent results every time.

Recipe ingredients

You only need a few simple ingredients to make perfect air fryer hamburgers.

Air fryer burgers ingredients
  • Ground beef. For the juiciest burgers, use 80–85% lean ground beef. Frozen burgers may be used as well — simply cook through to an internal temperature of 160 degrees.
  • Seasoning. Salt and pepper keeps the flavor simple and classic. You can change things up by using your favorite herbs or seasonings.
  • Burger buns and toppings. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard, or your favorites. Don’t forget the homemade burger sauce!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef I used 85% lean grass fed beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper or to taste

Instructions

  • Divide the ground beef into (4) equal pieces and form into patties about 3" across and 1/2" thick. Press your thumb into the center (this will help the patties hold their shape), then season both sides with salt and pepper.
  • Place the burgers in the air fryer basket in an even layer. Cook at 360 degrees for 4 minutes, then flip and cook an additional 3-4 minutes or until a thermometer inserted into the center registers 140-150 degrees for medium well doneness.
  • Remove the burgers from the air fryer basket and serve with your favorite condiments, lettuce wraps or buns. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Pro tip:  All air fryers vary, so be sure to check for doneness after 4-5 minutes to make sure that your burgers don’t overcook.
  • For medium rare burgers, aim for an internal temperature of 130-140 degrees.
  • Grass fed beef has great flavor, so I season these air fryer hamburgers simply with salt and pepper.  Feel free to change things up with your favorite seasonings!
  • Serve with your favorite condiments, buns, or lettuce wraps for a delicious low carb option.
  • Frozen hamburgers may be used as well — just increase the cooking time around 5 minutes or so and cook until a thermometer inserted into the middle registers 160 degrees.
