Some of the best salads are born when I rummage through the fridge and toss a few odds and ends into a bowl of greens.  That’s how this Strawberry Salad came to be.

I had a few strawberries, a few grapes, the last of a package of feta cheese that needed to be used up, and some leftover toasted walnuts.  I tossed it with the balsamic vinaigrette dressing that I’d made a few days earlier and bam!

It was a salad sensation.

This is one of the best strawberry salad recipes ever.  Juicy, sweet strawberries are the perfect compliment to crisp grapes, salty feta cheese and toasty walnuts.  The tangy, sweet balsamic dressing brings it all together for a salad that will appeal to the pickiest eaters.

I don’t know anyone that can resist a colorful salad brimming with some of summer’s best fruit!

This recipe is more of a side dish or lunch, but if you’re looking for a loaded salad to make a satisfying meal, be sure to try my strawberry fields salad!

Recipe notes

  • This strawberry salad recipe is best made just before serving to avoid wilting.  You can definitely prep all of your ingredients in advance so that you can simply toss everything together in minutes.
  • Feta cheese may be substituted with goat cheese, bleu cheese or gorgonzola cheese.
  • Any type of greens will work in this salad — use whatever you have on hand!
  • If you’re not a fan of walnuts, almonds or pecans would be great substitutes.

Ingredients

  • 5 ounces baby lettuce or spring mix
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup red grapes
  • 1/3 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 1/3 cup toasted walnut pieces*
  • Balsamic vinaigrette dressing

Instructions

  • Place all salad ingredients into a large bowl.
  • Toss gently with the desired amount of balsamic vinaigrette dressing and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Notes

  • *I love purchasing pre-toasted nuts as a time saver. To toast your own, place walnuts on a rimmed baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes or until fragrant. May be made in advance!  If you’re not a fan of walnuts, almonds or pecans would be great substitutes.
