Air fryer hard boiled eggs cut in half with perfectly cooked yolks on a plate.

I love prepping hard boiled eggs to have on hand for snacks, or for deviled eggs with bacon or creamy egg salad. For years I’ve prepared hard boiled eggs the classic way by boiling them in a pot with water, but now I’ve found an even easier way!

These Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs are my new favorite way to prepare them. There’s no water to boil — simply place eggs straight from the refrigerator into the air fryer and cook them at 250 degrees for 15-17 minutes depending on your desired level of doneness.

Once cooked, immediately transfer the eggs to a bowl of ice water, then they’re so easy to peel.

You’ll be so amazed at the soft texture that you may never make them any way again.

How to make hard boiled eggs in the air fryer

Making hard boiled eggs in the air fryer couldn’t be easier! They go straight from the refrigerator into the air fryer basket. They’re cooked at 250 degrees for about 15-17 minutes for hard boiled.

Cooking time will vary depending on how you like your eggs, from soft boiled to fully hard boiled. See the notes in the recipe card for cooking times.

Pro tip: Cook times may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model. For best results, test with 1–2 eggs the first time and cook for 15 minutes. This will help you determine the ideal timing for your specific air fryer.

See the recipe card below for full instructions.

Tips for success

  • Cook times may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model. For best results, test with 1–2 eggs the first time and cook for 15 minutes. This will help you determine the ideal timing for your specific air fryer.
  • If your air fryer doesn’t go down to 250 degrees in air fry mode, try the roast mode.
  • Use eggs that are 1–2 weeks old for easier peeling.
  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer basket.
  • Place the boiled eggs in ice water until completely cool before peeling.

Doneness guide

  • Soft boiled: 9–11 minutes.
  • Jammy: 12–13 minutes.
  • Hard boiled: 14–17 minutes

Recipe FAQs

What if my air fryer doesn’t go down to 250°F?

If your air fryer doesn’t have a 250°F setting, you can still make this recipe.
Use the lowest temperature available (usually 270–300°F). Check the eggs a few minutes early, as they may cook faster. You may need to reduce the cook time by 1–3 minutes.

Some air fryers also have a “roast” setting, which may allow for lower temperatures than the standard air fry mode.

Do air fryer eggs peel easily?

Yes! Air fryer eggs are generally easy to peel, especially when transferred to an ice bath immediately after cooking. Use eggs that are 1-2 weeks old for best results as fresher eggs are harder to peel.

Can eggs explode in the air fryer?

No, eggs do not typically explode in the air fryer when cooked in the shell. Because they cook at a relatively low temperature (around 250°F), the pressure inside the egg doesn’t build up the same way it might in a microwave. In rare cases, eggs may crack slightly during cooking, but they are still perfectly safe to eat.

For best results, place the eggs in a single layer and avoid overcrowding the basket.

Can you stack eggs in the air fryer?

It’s best not to stack eggs in the air fryer. For even cooking, place the eggs in a single layer with space between them so the hot air can circulate properly. Stacking may result in unevenly cooked eggs.

If you need to cook a larger batch, cook the eggs in multiple batches for best results.

Storage

Store hard cooked eggs:

  • Unpeeled in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  • Peeled eggs may be stored in an airtight container for up to 3–5 days.
