Burger Bowls
These Burger Bowls are everything you love about a juicy burger, and I promise you won’t miss the bun! These delicious bowls include juicy grilled beef burgers, roasted sweet potatoes, plenty of burger toppings and a generous drizzle of burger sauce. This is an easy, high protein dinner that’s ready in about 30 minutes!

We eat burgers at least once a week in my house, but if I’m being honest, I don’t always want the bun.
Sometimes I want all the burger flavor — juicy beef, crunchy pickles, creamy sauce and plenty of toppings — but in a way that feels fresher and easier to eat. That’s exactly where these easy Burger Bowls come in.
Think of them as a cheeseburger salad or hamburger bowl loaded with all the best burger toppings, plus crispy air fryer sweet potatoes on the side (because burger night absolutely needs potatoes in my world). I finish everything with tangy quick pickled red onions and a hefty drizzle of homemade burger sauce, which takes these bowls completely over the top.
The best part? They’re endlessly customizable and ready in about 30 minutes, making them one of my favorite easy weeknight dinners.
I love whipping up extra burgers to enjoy leftovers for lunch or have them for meal prep throughout the week.
You can customize these with your favorite toppings, or use my grilled turkey burgers as well. Don’t feel like grilling? Make my air fryer hamburgers, or simply cook the ground beef in a skillet.

Why you’ll love this recipe
- Burger bowls have all the flavors of your favorite cheeseburger in a fresher, easier-to-eat bowl.
- Air fryer sweet potatoes turn this into a satisfying dinner instead of just a burger salad. Omit them to make this recipe low carb.
- Quick pickled red onions and creamy burger sauce make the flavors pop.
- Easily customize them with your favorite burger toppings, cheese or protein.
- Ready in about 30 minutes and perfect for meal prep.
Recipe ingredients
These burger bowls are incredibly flexible, which is one of the reasons I love them. You can grill burgers, air fry them, cook them in a skillet or even use leftover burgers for an easy dinner shortcut.

- Ground beef. You’ll need one pound of ground beef for four quarter-pound burgers. I often use frozen grass-fed burger patties from Costco for an easy shortcut, but homemade grilled burgers or air fryer hamburgers work perfectly too. You can also opt to cook the ground beef in a skillet.
- Romaine lettuce. Crisp romaine gives these burger bowls structure and crunch. Iceberg lettuce or butter lettuce are great substitutes.
- Sweet potatoes. My air fryer roasted sweet potatoes make the bowls feel like burger-and-fries night while keeping everything wholesome and satisfying. You can prep them ahead for easy meals during the week. Sub with air fryer sweet potato fries, crispy air fryer potatoes, or your favorite frozen fries.
- Toppings. Here’s where you can have your fun and customize your burger bowls with your favorite toppings. Cherry tomatoes, dill pickles, avocado and quick pickled red onions add freshness, crunch and acidity that balance the richness of the burger.
- Cheese (optional). Add shredded cheddar or your favorite cheese to turn these into cheeseburger bowls.
- Burger sauce. My homemade burger sauce ties everything together and tastes like your favorite burger restaurant special sauce.

How to make this recipe
You can approach this recipe a few different ways. Grill burgers, cook them in the air fryer, pan sear them or use leftover burgers if you have them on hand.
I prefer burger patties because some people in my family still want theirs on a bun, which makes this dinner work for everyone.
Pro tip: Use an instant-read thermometer and pull burgers at 160°F for juicy, perfectly cooked burgers every time.
See the recipe card for full instructions.
- Form the beef into four burger patties and season generously with salt and pepper. Grill, air fry or cook in a skillet until cooked through.
- Cook the burgers using your preferred method:
Grill: Cook over medium-high heat for about 4–5 minutes per side.
Air fryer: Cook at 375°F for about 10–12 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Skillet: Cook over medium-high heat for about 4–5 minutes per side. - Ground beef should reach an internal temperature of 160°F in the thickest part of the burger. Let the burgers rest for about 5 minutes before serving to help keep them juicy.
- Prepare the air fryer sweet potatoes while the burgers cook.
- Add chopped romaine to each bowl, then layer on tomatoes, avocado, dill pickles, sweet potatoes and pickled red onions.
- Chop the burger patty and add it to the bowl, then drizzle generously with burger sauce and serve immediately.

Tips for Success
- Use an instant-read thermometer. Ground beef should reach 160°F for food safety, but avoid overcooking so the burgers stay juicy.
- Let burgers rest before slicing or serving. A short 5-minute rest helps the juices redistribute and keeps the burgers flavorful.
- Prep toppings ahead. Quick pickled red onions, burger sauce and sweet potatoes can all be made ahead for an even faster weeknight dinner.
- Don’t skip something tangy. Pickled red onions or dill pickles help balance the richness of the beef and burger sauce.
- Meal prep smart. Store lettuce and toppings separately from warm ingredients so everything stays crisp and fresh.
Recipe variations
These burger bowls can be served up a number of different ways as follows.
- Swap the ground beef for turkey burgers, chicken burgers or your favorite plant-based burger. Frozen burgers are great as a time saver, simply cook according to package instructions.
- Turn these into cheeseburger bowls with shredded cheddar, pepper jack or blue cheese crumbles.
- Try different toppings like crispy bacon, sautéed mushrooms, jalapeños or caramelized onions.
- For a Greek-inspired spin, add cucumber, feta, olives and tzatziki sauce instead of burger sauce. Greek tzatziki!
Storage + Meal Prep
- Store burger components separately in airtight containers for up to 3 days. Reheat burgers and sweet potatoes, then assemble bowls with fresh lettuce and toppings before serving.
- These burger bowls are perfect for meal prep — simply prep the toppings, sweet potatoes and burger sauce in advance so dinner comes together in minutes.
