I’m a big fan of appetizers, and could truly make a meal out of them. Grazing is always such a fun way to eat!

While I love snacking on a cheese board and Instant Pot chicken wings, it’s great to have some healthier options like homemade guacamole, white bean hummus and these fresh, tasty Smoked Salmon Appetizer Bites.

These bites incorporate my favorite smoked salmon toast toppings in a delicious low carb, gluten free appetizer.

Ingredient notes

  • Smoked salmon. I used Kvaroy Arctic’s sustainably-raised cold smoked salmon, but you may use your favorite!
  • Cream cheese. I used full fat cream cheese, but you may lighten up this recipe by using low fat or non fat, or substitute part of the cream cheese with Greek yogurt.
  • Cucumber. If you’re not a fan of cucumber, use your favorite crackers or bread as the base.
  • Dill. I highly recommend using fresh dill as it really makes the flavors in the cream cheese shine. You may substitute the dill with fresh parsley or your favorite herbs.

How to make this recipe

These smoked salmon bites are very easy to make, and they may be made completely in advance.

Pro tip: I chose to place a dollop of cream cheese on the cucumber with smoked salmon on top, but you may also place the smoked salmon directly on the cucumber slice and pipe the cream cheese over it for a more decorative touch!

  • Place the cream cheese, lemon zest, lemon juice, dill and salt in the bowl of a food processor. Process until smooth, then taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary.
  • Roll up each piece of smoked salmon, overlapping it as you go.
  • Place one heaping teaspoon of the cream cheese on each cucumber slice. Top each with a piece of smoked salmon and a small sprig of dill. Serve and enjoy!
