Bread baking doesn’t get easier than this rustic, buttery Beer Bread! It takes just minutes to prepare with a few simple ingredients, and best of all, it requires no kneading and no yeast!
Homemade bread is always best, but making it from scratch can be very time consuming.
There are certainly a few tricks to make it more effortless — my rosemary focaccia bread, Irish brown bread and this Brown Butter Maple Beer Bread are prime examples!

Recipe ingredients
This recipe only requires 5 simple ingredients that you more than likely have on hand.
Ingredient notes
- Flour. I use all purpose flour in this recipe. If you’d like to make it whole grain, I recommend using the same amount of whole wheat white flour, or half all purpose flour and half whole wheat flour.
- Beer. Any type of beer will work perfectly in this recipe. Darker beer will add a more pronounced flavor, while lighter beers will be more mild.
- Butter. Use unsalted butter to control the amount of sodium. I browned the butter for a big flavor boost, but you can skip that process and use plain melted butter as well.
- Maple syrup. The maple syrup adds flavor and sweetness that complements the brown butter and beer. Feel free to substitute it with your favorite sweetener.
How to make this recipe
This beer bread recipe couldn’t be easier to make. There is no yeast involved and no kneading, and it comes together in mere minutes.
- Place the butter in a small sauce pan and cook over medium low heat until melted. Increase the heat to medium and cook until browned and fragrant, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Place 1 tablespoon of brown butter into a standard loaf pan and brush along the bottom and all sides of the pan.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl.
- Add the beer and maple syrup to the dry ingredients and stir just until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly. Top the batter with the remaining brown butter.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely.
