As soon as fall arrives, I’m always on the lookout for pomegranates at the market. I love incorporating them into as many dishes as possible, because they add a beautiful, festive touch and pop of flavor to salads, cocktails and so much more.
I’ve talked to a lot of people that enjoy them but don’t purchase them because they really don’t know what to do with them outside of eating them as-is.
There are also many people that think they’re a pain to deal with as well, because cutting and deseeding them can be quite a messy process if it’s not done right.
This collection of 45 Pomegranate Recipes is here to help! It covers all the uses of pomegranate in both sweet and savory recipes, and includes a few handy DIYs like making homemade pomegranate juice and even pomegranate molasses.
Be sure to check out the recipes at the bottom of this post!

Pomegranates are round fruit about the size of a navel orange, and they have dark red skin. The inside consists of chambers of white pulp, which houses hundreds of tart sweet arils. The arils are the only edible part of the pomegranate.
This fruit is a deciduous shrub in the Lythraceae family that originated in the Mediterranean. It is in season from October through January in North America.
What is pomegranate pronunciation?
The word pomegranate is pronounced “pa-muh-gra-nit”.
What does pomegranate fruit taste like?
Pomegranate arils are crunchy, very juicy, and have a delicious tart-sweet flavor that can replace citrus in many recipes.
How to choose and store pomegranate fruit?
Choose pomegranates that feel heavy for their size and are free of discoloration or punctures.
Store uncut pomegranates in a cool, dry place for a few days, or refrigerate for 2-3 weeks.
Once the arils have been extracted, store them in an air tight container for about 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
How to eat pomegranate?
Pomegranate arils may be removed and eaten fresh from the pomegranate, but the tricky part is cutting and deseeding them in a way that reduces red-stained fingers, clothing, etc.
The arils are wonderful in both sweet and savory applications, from desserts and cocktails to salads, stews and salsa.
They can also be used to make pomegranate juice, pomegranate molasses and syrup.
What are pomegranate benefits?
Pomegranates are a good source of fiber, Vitamin C, potassium, folate and other minerals. They’re also rich in antioxidants and support digestive health.
A 1/2 cup of pomegranate arils contains about 72 calories, 16 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber.
If you’re following a low carb diet or have diabetes, be sure to check with your doctor to see if pomegranates are right for your diet.
How to grow pomegranate?
Pomegranates are typically grown as trees, which have a height and spread of 12 – 20 feet. Dwarf varieties may be grown in large containers.
Pomegranate trees need plenty of sun, so look for an area to plant them that has at least 6 hours of direct sunlight.
Good drainage is very important, but any soil type will generally work. Dig a hole to plant the tree that’s as deep as the pot from the nursery, and twice as wide.
There are so many uses of pomegranate as shown in the multitude of recipes below.
You’ll find sweet and savory salads and main dishes, refreshing pomegranate drinks, indulgent pomegranate desserts, and handy DIYs like homemade pomegranate juice and molasses.
I hope this collection inspires you to use pomegranate fruit a lot more often!
